Bill of Material or BOM
At some point since starting markstefanchuk.com I convinced myself that all of the links on cadgurus.aspx page worked - that there was a download file for each link. Evidently I missed some. Since posting the page in February I have received several emails (very helpful emails) telling me of broken links. I have fixed them. At least I beleive I have fixed them. Of course please don't hesitate to send me an email if you find a broken link, because obviously you can't count on me to test my own site. :)
So, the most recent broken link was bom.zip - fixed. This MicroStation VBA is not likely what you're thinking it is. The application was an experiment intended to demonstrate that you could extract and parse data from a cell name and use that information to build a spreadsheet bill of material. It was developed for V8.0 and has not been updated for 8.1 and 2004 versions of MicroStation - keep that in mind if you are still interested in downloading this example.
I have been working with similar technology recently where a workbook/spreadsheet is used as a data source containing standard drawing codes and descriptions and MicroStation VBA is used to build and place a drawing index table based on these standards. The user selects a combination of codes and builds a drawing list which can be saved to a text file and/or placed into the design file.
So, I think this workflow could work well for bill of material and schedule tools. Combined with tags on callouts or on the cell itself could represent a clean connection between standard descriptions, attributes and the elements in the desing file. Any thoughts welcome.
